(Reuters) – The Trump administration should face a lawsuit by states and advocacy teams over its plan to ask people who find themselves filling out the 2020 census type whether or not they’re U.S. residents, a federal choose dominated on Thursday.

U.S. District Choose Jesse Furman in Manhattan denied the administration’s movement to dismiss the lawsuit, which is backed by 18 states and the District of Columbia.
